What is the difference between coaching, counseling and consulting?
The coaching profession has been confused with therapy and consulting.  Each has its particular benefits.  Here are a few distinctions:

A consultant is an expert in a particular area and advises client. In coaching, the client is the expert.  While a coach may have expertise in various areas, the client is regarded as the ultimate expert of their life.  A coach asks the questions, listens, and provides honest feedback while the client discovers the answers and makes their own choices and decisions.

A therapist focuses on understanding historical patterns of feelings and behavior, often based in childhood.  A coach focuses on understanding a client’s present dreams and desires with a continuous focus on the future.

A therapist  generally works with people who are dealing with dysfunctions that are quantifiable such as depression, anxiety, and addictions.  Coaches only work with people who are healthy and who are seeking more fulfillment in life.

How are you qualified to coach?
The coaching profession is regulated by the International Coaching Federation and provides certification; however, certification is not a mandatory requirement.  I am a student of Coach University and have been coaching (i.e. supporting others) all my life.  I believe that what truly qualifies me to coach is my love and passion for helping my clients succeed.  See more details in Arrow About Cathy.

How much does coaching cost?
Please refer to my Coaching Services page for fee details.

What if I do not have e-mail capability?
Since coaching conversations take place over the phone, it is not necessary to have email capability.  However, emails are a simple and easy way to stay connected between sessions and most clients find surprise “check-in” emails very helpful, encouraging, and empowering.

Can coaching be done face-to-face?
Absolutely; however, it is my practice to conduct sessions via telephone.  If you are new to this idea and would prefer face-to-face meetings, please call me and let’s talk about it.
